Ten incoming Uni-versity of Hawaii at Hilo freshmen from Hawaii Island were named as the 2015 recipients of the Dorrance Scholarship.

Ten incoming Uni-versity of Hawaii at Hilo freshmen from Hawaii Island were named as the 2015 recipients of the Dorrance Scholarship.

They are:

• Brandon Aguiar, Waiakea High School.

• Sharlene Bala, Honokaa High and Intermediate School.

• Maggie Chen, Kealakehe High School.

• Everette Ganir, Keaau High School.

• Marc Daniel Grande, Kealakehe High School.

• Courtney Ip, Waiakea High School.

• Maya Kottwitz, Hawaii Academy of Arts and Science.

• Marina Merkulova, Laupaoehoe Community Public Charter School.

• Shaniah Yogi, Kamehameha Schools-Hawaii.

• Adrianna Zablan, Kanu O Ka Aina New Century Public Charter School.

The Dorrance Scholarship is a four-year award designed to benefit local students who are the first in their families to attend college.

Each year, up to 10 eligible students are awarded need-based scholarships of $10,000 per year to attend UH-Hilo.
